Beyond Fear

Two record breaking pilots, Britons Colin Bodill and Jennifer Murray, are on a mission, to be the first to circumnavigate the world via both Poles, in a helicopter. It’s one of the last great aviation challenges. Already they have flown from New York, down along the east coast of the United States, across the Caribbean and over Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina, to Antarctica and the South Pole. But as they turn north a storm blows up out of nowhere. They are in a white-out. As they try to make an emergency landing, with only their instruments to rely on, something goes tragically wrong. They fly into the side of a hill. The helicopter cartwheels, tossing them around inside, until it finally comes to rest, a mangled wreck. Their tracking device immediately sends out a distress signal, but they are in the middle of Antarctica, hundreds of miles from the nearest base, and there’s a storm raging. Even if a plane can be scrambled there’s no way it could land. They are both badly injured and with the temperature close to -40C they will quickly develop hypothermia.
